GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Radiation Therapist Team Leader. The incumbent delivers proton therapy treatments to patients in the ProCure Proton Treatment Center-OKC and adheres to all policies and procedures governing the high quality and compassionate delivery of radiation therapy treatments / simulations. The Radiation Therapist will work in cooperation with other team members to assure all treatment procedures are delivered accurately, with compassion and according to the MD prescription provided.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge of modern radiation therapy systems and sub-systems.
- Knowledge of simulation, imaging and treatment procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to interact with all levels of personnel.
- Computer skills including IMPAC or Varis record & verify, Excel, Outlook, Word.
- Able to multitask.
- ARRT current certification, with full CE compliance.
- Associates degree required, bachelor degree preferred.
DUTIES
- Performs daily proton treatments and / or simulation procedures.
- Works as an engaged team member in their assigned area.
- Works with Team Leader and other team members to provide high quality, compassionate and consistent care.
- Follows all policies, protocols and procedures.
- Helps maintain work area to JCAHO standards and helps maintain proper supplies stock in the treatment area.
- Maintains efficient schedule by cooperating with team members and maintaining good workflow processes.
- Always places patient care first.
- Reports any equipment problems to Team Leader and engineering staff promptly, and assists, if required, to investigate problem.
- Provides feedback to Team Leader on any process improvement opportunities.
- Provides information to Team Leader about equipment, process, personnel issues.
- Maintains positive relationships with other team members, nursing, dosimetry, physics, physicians, administration, partner hospitals, engineering., etc
- Assists Team Leader by rotating through coverage of pre / post treatment clinical and billing compliance documentation procedures.
ENVIRONMENT OF WORK
Exposures to hazardous risks include radiation exposure (under the ALARA principle), potential exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment and chemicals. Potential for bodily injury due to lifting. Required to follow universal precautions. Exposure to cleaning / sterilization agents. Hazards will be minimal if proper safety precautions are utilized. Work is mainly performed in an area with no natural light, and in close proximity to other team members.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES
- Technical problem solving.
- Provide excellent care for all patients, regardless of age, race, sexual orientation or religion.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
- Ability to travel for educational / training purposes.
- Excellent computer skills, including use of IMPAC or Varis record & verify, Outlook.
- Teaching skills.
- Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs of equipment or weight of patient in wheelchair transfer.
- Physical ability to reach 5 feet above the floor.
- Able to walk for majority of shift.
- Keyboard / mouse dexterity.
- Good vision and hearing.
- Command of the verbal and written English language.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
- Provide input for the Team Leader on the operational and capital budget.
- Manage center resources in a fiscally responsible manner.
OTHER
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Every ProCure Employee is responsible for the up-keep and maintenance of the facility.
